The architectural concept of this building, created by Walter Gropius, is an evolution of an idea he previously implemented with the Fagus Factory in Alfeld an der Leine before World War I. Both structures feature a glass facade on a load-bearing framework, offering a glimpse into the interior workings. In Dessau’s workshop wing, this design showcases the constructive elements. Notably, the building’s corners are not visually emphasized, creating a sense of transparency. Gropius differentiated the design of various sections based on function, positioning the wings asymmetrically. To comprehend the complex, one must navigate around it, as there is no central view, reinforcing the unique and dynamic nature of the architecture.
