€110.00€95.00Piet Mondrian (1872–1944) was a Dutch painter and a key figure in abstract art. He studied in Amsterdam, later moving to Paris and becoming associated with Cubism. Mondrian developed his unique style, neoplasticism, characterized by geometric abstraction and primary colors. Fleeing World War II, he settled in New York, where he continued his influential work until his death on February 1, 1944, at the age of 71. Mondrian’s art laid the groundwork for abstract art and left a lasting impact on the 20th-century art scene.
“Composition No. 4” by Piet Mondrian, painted in 1914, is a prime example of his transition to neoplasticism. The artwork features a grid of intersecting black lines, creating squares and rectangles filled with primary colors—red, blue, and yellow—along with white, black, and gray. Mondrian’s use of geometric shapes and strict order reflects his pursuit of universal harmony through abstract art, making it a key piece in the development of the De Stijl movement.

€110.00€95.00A woman (probably Lis Beyer or Ise Gropius) wearing a mask designed by Oskar Schlemmer, seated in a Marcel Breuer Wassily Chair. Created in 1926, this scene embodies the avant-garde spirit of the Bauhaus movement.
The woman, adorned with Schlemmer’s mask, is likely engaged in a playful or theatrical expression, as Schlemmer was associated with the Bauhaus theater workshops. The mask might be a geometric and abstract form, reflecting the Bauhaus emphasis on merging art and functionality.
The choice of the Marcel Breuer Wassily Chair adds another layer of modernism to the composition. Designed in 1925-1926, this chair is a hallmark of Bauhaus furniture design, featuring a tubular steel frame and leather straps. The combination of the mask, the chair, and the year of creation places this scene at the intersection of avant-garde art, design, and the innovative spirit of the Bauhaus school in the 1920s.
