Smena -8M film camera manual 35mm shootbox, 1970’s, made in the USSR. Has a coated “Triplet” lens that delivers nice saturation and contrast. Lens: three element triplet lens, the T-43. Exposure: exposure controls are all on the lens, which allows for apertures from f/4 though to f/16. Interestingly the apertures are also the ISO control. Speed range: from 1/250 to 1/15 of a second and Bulb. Tripod socket. This vintage item remains fully functional in perfect working order.

The camera’s uniqueness is its exposure meter design. Called the Circle-Eye exposure system, the lens is completely surrounded by a selenium cell (ATL) for light metering providing very accurate light readings. The readings can be viewed conveniently in two places, on top the camera’s top plate and through the viewfinder. This vintage item remains fully functional in perfect working order.

Since it is made for amateur photographers, it is lighter (thanks to its polycarbonate top and bottom covers and copper-aluminum alloy body), less bulky, and is far simpler to use. It has aperture priority, semi-automatic exposure control powered by a 60/40 center-weighted silicon light meter and a viewfinder that has a needle that indicated the exposure on a shutter speed scale.
